Spring 2026 marks the beginning of the 150th year of existence for the American Chemical Society. Chemical and Engineering News described the origin of the ACS as follows.
“On April 6, 1867, 35 chemists gathered in the Lecture Room in the University Building of the College of Pharmacy of the City of New York, at the corner of Waverly Place and University Place, and passed a motion to create a national chemistry society. What started as a group with around 192 members in late 1876, is a global community of over 230,000 today.” Chemical and Engineering News, November 7, 2025
ACS 150th Anniversary celebrations and events will be held throughout the year, including at upcoming national meetings. Information about anniversary events can be found at the ACS150 web page.
