The local section group has read over ten books over the last 24 months. We have learned that becoming an ally is important to combating racism, a caste system keeps individuals from fulling their potential, and everyday experiences of underrepresented groups causes trauma with physical and psychological impacts spanning generations. The author of the December book writes about her own experience as an American living in a Japanese internment camp during her teenager years. This is a rarely told story. Our moderator, Dr John Shafer, recommended this book to us. We thought it would be appropriate if we all read it and discussed it in December to commemorate the events of December 7th and the subsequent decisions that led to the creation of the internment camps.
Please RSVP to Despina Strong (strongdespina@gmail.com) if you plan to join us.
