ACS PSS DEIR Scholarship Named in Honor of Professor John Macklin

The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect (DEIR) Scholarship has been named in honor of University of Washington Professor Emeritus John Macklin. Professor Macklin had a long and distinguished career in the UW Department of Chemistry, where he was the first African American faculty member. John remains very active in chemistry and the ACS PSS, serving as one of the section’s Councilors. Dr. Sheri Tonn and Dr. Leonard Andrews, Co-Chairs of the ACS Puget Sound Section’s DEIR Committee made the announcement at the annual Awards Banquet on September 30th, at Renton Technical College. Thank you, John, for your pioneering spirit, and for being a leader and a champion for diversity for over five decades.

Central Washington University student Ifunanya Ede is the first recipient of the John Macklin Scholarship.
